The difference between a person and a monster is one or more of the following:

* enough days without fuel
* enough weeks without shelter
* enough months without freedom
* enough years without love

The problem with trying to quantify violence morally is that violence is a power, like intelligence or strength, or a tool, like diplomacy or the experimental method.

Violence is morally neutral. Violent acts are morally right or morally wrong depending upon the context, the reasoning, and the natural consequences. There is nothing morally superior about the person who allows their dependents and loved ones to die because they would rather keep spilt energon off their hands than protect those who love them.

It's like trying to define emotions as 'positive' or 'negative'.

Emotions are what they are. You have them whether you want them or not (and often, you don't).

Lust isn't negative. Lust is lust. Using another person to satisfy your lust without regard for their needs, even with their stated but uninformed consent, is wrong; but when I was young I was afraid of lust, because all it meant to me was pain, until the person I loved more than anyone else opened his spark to me and shared with me the joy he took in his own lust for me and the lust for him that I tried to suppress out of fear. And while some would say that was love, it was not only love. He didn't just want to take care of me. He wanted to take his pleasure together with me, instead of out of me.

Pride isn't negative. If you don't have any, you're capable of doing things that degrade your spark--and that's true whether you set it aside on your own or have it torn from you like I did in my youth.

Anger naturally arises when you're thwarted, and sure, sometimes we all deserve to be thwarted; a certain amount of conflict and competition is healthy. But without it you'll never know that your perimeter has been breached and your boundaries violated.

I don't know that we were made by anybody. I also don't know that we weren't. What I know is that if we were made by another species, nobody remembers for sure who they were. Now, at least, we make each other. The sparks come from hot spots and we make the bodies that they go in.

Is there some reason why you think mechanical life needs to have been made by organic life? Just because that's how it happened on your world--your Earth, not the Earth I know--doesn't mean it happens that way always.

It seems like there are a lot of universes that have a planet called Earth with humans on it. We're not planning to invade your Earth. But we already invaded the Earth in our universe. Currently we only have a few outposts there. We tried to take it over, but the Autobots are extremely annoying, and for some reason, they really like humans.

I mean...I like humans as individuals just fine. But it took us four million years to mess up our planet as badly as we have. Their technology is worse than ours, but they are way ahead of us on the messing-up-the-planet timeline. Cybertron is kind of a mess, but when we were less than a million years old as a species, it was still really nice.

Given that we're one of the most destructive species in the galaxy, and they have managed to frag up their planet way more in way less time... I can kind of understand why Megatron was a little worried about what would happen if humans became an interstellar power.

(My husband--my conjunx--is interested in the environment on Earth. He likes animals. Especially elephants.)

Anyhow, if my conjunx and I manage to get control of our faction, we're going to try to move energon mining off Earth and into the rest of the solar system. Given that there's energon on Earth, and it's a mineral, which means it doesn't depend on the existence of a biosphere...we think it's likely there's plenty on the outer planets, it's just a little harder to find because the atmospheres are so dense and interfere with our scans.

Honestly, though? Humans could do a lot worse than to have us running the place. Our ability to mess up biospheres has taught us kind of a lot about how to fix them, and now that the war is over I think that can actually happen, and...

I'm going on and on about this. You don't care about this. It's not your Earth, I'm just thinking out loud because thinking about things like this is my job now. Sorry.

(It would help if we had some idea where all the weird energon ores on the colonies are coming from and why we keep finding them on planets that are already inhabited, when the conditions that lead to the development of intelligent life really shouldn't have any overlap with the development of energon ores...)

Laserbeak munched on some Copper Curlz and listened. She would find a way to make Soundwave understand, she determined. She was shocked at how close Ravage might be to leaving them. She wanted to believe that Ravage was just being kind, which was always his downfall, but knowing that he had resumed 'facing their former and faithless Lord (and she had no doubt that had happened) was a bit of a shock.

Soundwave had never objected to that before (for one thing, he wasn't going to tell Megatron not to, and he would love Ravage no matter what he did) but that had been when everyone she cared about was still all on the same side and getting along much better because of their common enemies.
